Centro di Analisi  Nonlineare Europeo
European Centre of Nonlinear Analisys

We bet many of you have a CANE without knowing it, because maybe you don’t know that a CANE in Italy is a DOG.

Our CANE wishes to promote interdisciplinary investigations with nonlinear tools in different fields such as:

  • Medicine (for example in the study of heart malformations);
  • Economics with the investigations of mathematical models of global financial systems;
  • Physics and Mechanics observing the behaviour of materials under stresses of various types;
  • Mathematics extending to the nonlinear context classical results of the linear theory such as spectral and eigenvalue theories as well as furnishing solid theoretical background to phenomena in presence of symmetries. In this last respect particularly important appear results where the structures involved are not abelian (see "Why? -- That’s why!" please).
To conclude, if you still don’t have a dog maybe this is the right moment to "adopt" ours: it’s very friendly.

The CANE for the moment is only a puppy but is growing very fast with the encouragement of friends from all over the world.

We hope to have soon fellowships both at doctoral and postdoctoral levels and the first scientific international initiative is going to take place on June 16-17, 2000 (take a look at "Raids and Initiatives" please).
